Katherine Swampy
Katherine Swampy is your NDP candidate for Battle River—Crowfoot.
She has been fighting for First Nations rights since she was 11 years old, and is now an Indigenous leader, advocate, academic, and mother.
She served as a band councillor for the Samson Cree Nation for six years and is active on numerous boards and committees.
In her professional life, Katherine is a business development manager, supporting Indigenous women in business.
Katherine dances and teaches young girls the jingle dress dance and how to sew traditional regalia. Katherine also counsels youth in her community.
She is a fierce advocate for women’s rights, MMIWG, Indigenous Peoples, the environment, and 2SLGBTQ+ rights.
With a Bachelors in Economics and Political Studies, a Masters of Public Policy Administration, and a Masters of Philosophy, Katherine is now studying for a PhD. She wants to use her education and experience to represent the community she has fought for all her life.
As your MP, she will fight for everyday people struggling to buy groceries, rent, and electricity. She believes that housing is a human right and will make affordable housing initiatives a priority.
